Forrester: WAF will be replaced

Sandy Carielli, Principal Analyst at Forrester:

«Bot management will replace traditional WAFs, with many of the core functions of WAFs being taken over by bot management. This will allow bot management to become the primary application protection solution by 2025»

Secwell difference
WAFs were one of the first tools used to block malicious bots by creating reputation-based WAF rules and assigning risk scores based on the historical behavior of IP addresses.

WAF rules are notoriously difficult to configure and update and are subject to a high false-positive rate. The more stringent the risk assessments set to enhance security, the higher the rate of false positives.

Running a WAF requires system resources and constant maintenance to add rules when new vulnerabilities and exploits are discovered.
